Regain Your Vision with The Classical Eye
Even though we’re big fans of glasses and contact lenses, who among us hasn’t been tempted by the promise of perfect vision with refractive eye surgery? Refractive eye surgery is used to correct refractive errors, like nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia.
There are many surgical procedures, and each has its own pros and cons. There’s no one-size-fits-all surgery that works best for everyone. So, the best first step when considering laser eye surgery is a laser eye surgery consultation. At The Classical Eye, we provide consultations for LASIK eye surgery.
If you’ve ever wondered if LASIK is right for you, call us today and book your comprehensive consultation!
We’ll take this time to collect information about your overall eye health, check for signs of eye conditions or diseases, test your visual acuity, and discuss your medical history. We’ll also take a series of measurements and examine the inner structures of your eyes to forward to your ophthalmologist for use during the surgery.
The information we collect will help us determine if LASIK will work for your unique eyes and specific needs. If your optometrist determines that LASIK is a good option for you, the rest of the consultation will involve counseling you on what to expect during the procedure itself, how to manage realistic expectations about the results, and answering all your questions and concerns about eye surgery.
Your LASIK consultation will last around 2 hours and is designed to help you decide if surgery is the right path for you.
LASIK Eye Surgery
Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is one of the most common refractive surgeries. Although many patients will still need glasses for some activities, like driving at night or reading, LASIK has a good track record: many patients achieve 20/25 vision, complications are rare, and side effects are temporary.
The LASIK procedure itself takes roughly 30 minutes. It involves creating a flap in your cornea with a cutting blade or laser, which is lifted out of the way to expose the corneal stroma. This is the section of the eye that will be reshaped to correct your vision.
A special computerized laser is then used to remove precise layers of corneal tissue to your prescription. The flap is then put back into place, and will heal without stitches.
It can take up to 3 months for your eyes to completely heal. You’ll be scheduled for a series of follow-up appointments at our practice so we can monitor your healing process and check your visual acuity.
